All About the Allen-Bradley 1756-IF16

The Allen-Bradley 1756-IF16 ControlLogix analog input module converts incoming analog signals into digital signals compatible with other devices. It features an integrated analog-to-digital converter (ADC) with Delta-Sigma modulation. The transformed data is stored in the IEEE 32-bit precision floating-point data format.

Applications of Allen-Bradley 1756-IF16

The module can control various devices and tasks, such as electromagnetic devices and AC motor induction. Other applications include:

  • Motion controllers
  • Temperature controllers
  • Machine vision systems

1756-IF16 Installation and Configuration

Wire all the inputs to the same ground to effectively perform the single-ended wiring technique.

The differential wiring approach is advised for applications that do not share a common ground or potentially have independent signal pairs. This wiring solution is also ideal for situations requiring enhanced noise immunity, and a differential mode does not isolate its channels from one another.

If several differential input signals use specific common voltage references, the reading of one channel could affect that of another channel. If this happens, users should link the inputs of different modules or swap out the non-isolated module for an isolated module.

The quickest data updates are achievable using the high-speed differential wiring method.
