TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

The Allen-Bradley 1756-IF16 ControlLogix analog input module converts incoming analog signals into digital signals compatible with other devices. The digital signals that have been converted can be utilized to control electromagnetic devices, AC motor induction, and more.

The 1756-IF16 module may be wired in one of three ways: single-ended, differential, or high-speed differential wiring, depending on the requirements of the user and application. The single-ended wiring technique performs effectively when all inputs are wired to the same ground. The purpose of this is to calculate the difference between the signal ground and one end of the signal input, which is then used by the module to supply digital data to the controller.

The differential wiring approach is advised for applications that do not share a common ground or potentially have independent signal pairs. This wiring solution also is ideal for situations requiring enhanced noise immunity. A differential mode does not isolate its channels from one another. If several differential input signals use specific common voltage references, the reading of one channel could affect that of another channel. If this happens, users should link the inputs of different modules or swap out the non-isolated module for an isolated module.

The quickest data updates are achievable using the high-speed differential wiring method. The 1756-IF16 analog input module has a 2.3 Watt power consumption and a 2.33 Watt total backplane power. The input range is between 0 and 10V, 0 and 5V, or 0 and 20 mA. The module contains four differential-speed) inputs, eight differential, and sixteen single-ended inputs.

Depending on the module's range, the 1756-IF16 analog input module has a varying resolution. There are 16 significant bits, which correspond to 65,536 counts. The resolution is 320 µV per count at a ±10.25V input range, 160 µV per count at a 0...10.25V input range, 80 µV per count at a 0...5.125V input range, and 0.32 µA per count at a 0...20.5 mA input range.

For single-ended wiring, this module's scan time ranges from 16 to 488 ms; for differential wiring, it ranges from 8 to 244 ms; and for high-speed differential wiring, it ranges from 5 to 122 ms. It features an integrated analog-to-digital converter (ADC) with Delta-Sigma modulation. The transformed data is stored in the IEEE 32-bit precision floating-point data format. This module's calibrated accuracy is 0.15% of the range for current inputs and 0.05% for voltage inputs.

This module's current consumption is 150 mA at 5.1V dc and 65 mA at 24V dc. The input voltage range is -10 to 10V, and the input current range is 4 to 20 mA. Around 2.3 Watts of electricity is dissipated via voltage, and 3.9 Watts is by the current. The voltage's thermal dissipation is 7.84 BTU per hour, and the current's thermal dissipation is 13.3 BTU per hour. Additionally, it incorporates 30V dc of maximum overvoltage protection.
