TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

The Allen-Bradley 1769-OW16 is a 16 point relay module built to control AC and DC loads. There are a total of sixteen (16) normally open relay inputs in this module. These are then divided into two groups that each have 8 points. For configuration, RSLogix 500 and RSNetworx for DeviceNet programming software are typically used.

These are the contact ratings of this module at different volts (AC and DC):

For Make:

    120 Volts AC, 1800 VA = 7.5A
  • 240 Volts AC, 1800 VA = 7.5A
  • 24 Volts DC, 28 VA = 1.2A
  • 125 Volts DC, 28 VA = 0.22A

For Break:

    240 Volts AC, 180 VA = 0.75A

The relay contact ratings range from 1A to 2.5 A per point, depending on the voltage. Relay contacts with 120V and 240V ac max voltages require 2.5 A. Ones with 125V dc max voltage use 1A. Lastly, contacts with 240 dc max voltage require 2A. The operating voltages range from 5 to 265V ac and 5 to 125V dc. The current draw at 24V is 180 mA, and at 5.1V, it is 205 mA.

In terms of maximum power dissipation of the module, it is 4.75 Watts. The maximum off-stage leakage is 0 mA, while the minimum on-stage current at 5 Volts DC is 10 mA. The operating temperature of 1769-OW16 ranges from 0 to 60 degrees Celsius, while the non-condensing humidity stays between 5% to 95%. The operating shock is 30G, but the module can withstand vibrations of 2G. This module has a 10 millisecond of delay for on and off states.

The 1769-OW16 is flexible because it is compatible with many applications in CompactLogix Controllers. In MicroLogix controller assemblies, the 1769-OW16 can be added as an expansion. The 1769-OW16 also works in an assembly with 1769-AENTR Ethernet and 769-ADN DeviceNet network adapters.

The required distance for the power supply of the 1769-OW16 is 8 modules, so the 1769-OW16 cannot be more than 8 modules away from a power supply. It can receive power from its own supply or be coupled with a MicroLogix 1500 unit. The 1769-PA2, 1769-PB2, 1769-PA4, and 1769-B4 power supplies are compatible with this module and mount on either din rails or panels.

The input power wire size for the 1769-OW16 is 14 AWG solid stranded copper that can stand at least 167°F (75°C) or more with 3/64 in. (1.2 mm) insulation. Output power wire sizes can be 14…22 AWG solid or stranded copper that can stand at least 167°F (75°C) or more with 3/64 in. (1.2 mm) insulation.

The 1769-OW16 must connect to CompactLogix and MicroLogix communication buses. The 1769-OW16 occupies one chassis slot in the controller system. To use this module as an I/O extension of the MicroLogix 1500 unit, you must install the base first and add it to any neighboring Compact I/O module for its assembly.

Since MicroLogix 1500 only supports Compact I/O 1769 modules you must install the module locally or as an expansion. You can insert it into the communication bus by installing the module first and then locking the bus levers.

When you are using MicroLogix, always consider RSLogix 500 only. However, if there is a CompactLogix system, you can consider RSLogix 5000 or Studio 5000. Lastly, the module offers fine-tuning parameters, which means you can access them by using any programming software. Slot assignment, packet interval, module inhibition, and revision number are included in the 1769-OW16’s parameters.
