The National Instruments PXI-8174 is a robust Windows-based PXI controller designed for use in compact industrial automation systems. Powered by a 566 MHz Pentium processor, this controller offers seamless compatibility with PXI and cPCI systems and is ideally deployed within a PXI-compatible chassis, such as the PXI-1000B. It features an array of standard I/O ports, including a 15-pin DSUB for VGA, a 9-pin DSUB RS-232 serial port, a 10/100 Ethernet port, a parallel port (IEEE 1284), two USB ports, and a PS/2 port for keyboard/mouse connectivity. The front panel includes a TRG connector that facilitates software-controlled trigger routing on the PXI backplane. The PXI-8174 supports diverse data storage options, such as USB drives, an internal IDE hard drive, and a 1.44 MB floppy disk. Users can boot from multiple devices including the internal hard drive, floppy drive, IDE CD-ROM, external USB devices, and SCSI hard drives, with an adjustable boot order based on device preference. It also offers LCD display control when paired with PXI-1020 or PXI-1025 chassis. This 3U size module measures 6.1 x 13 x 21.6 cm and requires one system slot plus three controller expansion slots for installation. Although the PXI-8174 has been announced as obsolete, it remains available for purchase and repair through Apex Waves.
