The Allen-Bradley 1756-L84E ControlLogix high-end controller is best suited for large applications since it can interface and manage input and output devices, specifically 128000 discrete and 4000 analog inputs and outputs.

The Studio 5000 Logix Designer is employed to program and configure the 1756-L84E ControlLogix controller. Utilizing one or more communication protocols, such as EtherNet/IP (Ethernet Industrial Protocol), SynchLink, DeviceNet, ControlNet, and Data Highway Plus (DH+), enables local I/O control and the implementation of distributed I/O architecture.

There is an inbuilt EtherNet/IP communication port on the 1756-L84E controller. This embedded port, which supports 10 to 1000 Mbps transmission speeds, may send messaging commands to other controllers, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, and human-machine interfaces (HMI) inside the same Ethernet network.

It also includes a USB port that may be utilized for controller parameter initial downloads and firmware updates. A USB 2.0 with a 12 Mbps connection speed is used for the USB port.

The built-in user memory for the 1756-L84E controller is 20MB. The 1784-SD2, a 2GB SD (Secure Digital) card, may be used to install additional non-volatile memory. This controller has an internal energy storage module, making it user and environmentally friendly, so it doesn't need a battery to keep the data in the volatile memory.

The controller uses 1.2 mA at 5.1V dc and 5 mA at 1.2V dc in terms of backplane current. The 1756-L84E controller offers 50V isolation between the USB port and the backplane, the Ethernet port and the backplane, and the USB port and the Ethernet port using basic insulation that has been tested at 1000V ac for one minute. Its operating heat dissipation is 21.2 BTU per hour.

The controller only takes up one slot and fits into any 1756 Chassis slot. The local I/O event triggers allow the controller to do an infinite number of operations.

The built-in USB connection on the 1756-L84E controller is designed specifically for programming, online changes, and firmware upgrades. It also includes an embedded Ethernet port that is incorporated into the device. This port can accommodate up to 250 nodes and improves the network's performance by enabling broader connectivity and integrated motion control.

The controller has passed IEC testing for a 0 to 60 °C temperature range and 5 to 95% non-condensing relative humidity limits without de-rating. The 1756-L84E weighs around 394g and has a shock and vibration resistance of 30G and 2G, respectively.
