The Allen-Bradley 1756-N2 slot filler package comprises two passive modules resembling casings without any electrical circuitry. This module, which covers and protects the exposed circuitries of a vacant slot of the ControlLogix system 1756 and is also known as a dummy module, is increasingly commonly used.

The 1756-N2 slot filler module conceals the electrical circuitry rather than taking up a chassis slot. The best installation locations for this module are those with a high concentration of dust particles or other tiny pollutants that might cling to the backplane. In addition, it adds another layer of defense against industrial pollutants, including gases and vapors.

Several factors lead to the creation of backplane slots. One of them is the system's strategic segmentation to ensure correct I/O module distribution in the case of an update. The creation of empty backplane slots also serves as an expansion provision and a way to reserve slot configuration through module inhibition.

If the actual module is not yet accessible or won't be installed for a certain amount of time, a slot can be set with a specific assignment thanks to module inhibition. Module inhibition makes it possible to avoid hardware reconfiguration, which keeps a system from being halted. The 1756-N2 slot filler module is suitable for all the above circumstances.

Since the 1756-N2 slot filler module has no electrical circuitry, it may be installed and taken apart with or without electricity. This module's operational temperature is 0...60 °C (32...140 °F), and its storage temperature is -25...+60 °C (-13...+140 °F).

Several communication methods are available for the 1756-N2 slot filler module. The RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485 modules fall within this category. At 5V dc, the backplane current is 800 mA, but at 24V dc, it is 3 mA. It offers a 4 Mbps or 8 Mbps SERCOS Data Rate. The current consumption of this slot filler module is 1.2 A at 5.1V dc. Thermal dissipation is 21.2 BTU per hour, and power dissipation is 6.2 Watts. It may be utilized in any chassis slot and offers a constant isolation voltage of 50V.

The 1756-N2 slot filler module is a chassis accessory mounted on a ControlLogix chassis. Either the 1492 wire interface module or an RTB (Removable Terminal Block) must be used to connect the field-side wiring. It has the ability to time stamp data, which helps it keep track of how events unfold on apps.
