The 1769-L18ERM-BB1B 5370 L1 CompactLogix Controller by Allen-Bradley is an Ethernet processor with embedded I/O channels and supports extension I/O devices.

This reliable controller comes with Sixteen 24VDC Discrete Output Channels as well as Sixteen 24VDC Discrete input channels. It can also store eight Point I/O modules among the 1734 product line for installation. Further, it has 1GB of non-volatile memory and 512KB of user memory. Due to the detachable nature of the 1784-SD1 Secure Digital (SD) card, only the consistent memory can be changed. 1784-SD2 is a suitable substitute for it.

Two Ethernet ports and one USB port make up the 1769-L18ERM-BB1B onboard communication interfaces. The USB port can transmit data at a rate of up to 12 MB/s, while Ethernet connectors offer a speed of 10/100 Mbps. Both ports allow for online controller modifications, hardware setup, firmware updates, and programming. Only the Ethernet ports can connect to the Ethernet network and communicate with other controllers, third-party applications, and visualization systems. The Ethernet ports support Device Level Ring, Linear, and Traditional Star topologies.

The 1769-L18ERM-BB1B has intrinsic motion capabilities with Ethernet I/P, so it can control 2 motion axes without a motion control module installed. RSLogix 5000 programming software is used to set all the functions of the 1769-L18ERM-BB1 I/O Module. This software includes the primary programming tool, RSLinx, a communication manager, and programs for updating the firmware, such as ControlFlash.

This module is perfect for small to medium-sized applications with axis motion counts and modest Point I/O. It features an open socket that enables the usage of servers, printers, barcode scanners, and other hardware like Modbus TCP. Kinematics functionalities are supplied for both basic and articulated robotics. The 1769-L18ERM-BB1B offers support for two CIP motion position loop axes from the integrated motion via Ethernet/IP for optimal scalability.

The Allen-Bradley 1769-L18ERM-BB1B controller includes an in-built I/O module with sixteen digital inputs. Also, it has a similar number of output points. There are 96 I/O ports and room for 8 modules of local expansion through the Allen-Bradley 1734 backplane.

For using local expansion possibilities, the 1769-L18ERM-BB1B controller must be mounted on a DIN rail, and any extra modules must be placed on the controller's right side. Embedded I/O and local expansion modules usually have power less than the 3 A of field power current & 1 A of backplane current that is typically supplied by the POINTBus.

The Device Level Ring or DLR network architecture is precisely connected with the 1769-L18ERM-BB1B programmable automation controller with 24 Volts DC through the built-in switch. Connectivity at the device level by Device Level Ring topology improves network reliability. This allows for individual devices to be swapped out without affecting output.
