The National Instruments part number 778440-06, also known as the PCI-7356, is a high-performance Motion Controller Device designed to facilitate complex motion applications with ease. Capable of controlling up to six axes of motion, the PCI-7356 features three inputs per axis, allowing for intricate motion tasks. This motion controller supports a variety of operation modes, including blended motion trajectory control and fully coordinated movements such as circular, linear, point-to-point, gearing, and vector space control. It is suitable for both embedded real-time control and host-centric programming, ensuring versatile application deployment.

Equipped with eight 16-bit analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), the PCI-7356 provides robust data acquisition alongside advanced trajectory and triggering features. Its sinusoidal commutation capability makes it particularly effective for managing brushless motors. The integration of NI-Motion driver software allows for synchronized startup of all axes, ensuring compliance with designated acceleration and velocity profiles. The device incorporates an integrated 32-bit CPU along with 16-bit digital-to-analog converters (DACs) and 8 analog input/output channels, underscoring its efficiency in processing control tasks.

Designed to fit compatible PCI Local Bus slots as per Specifications and Standards Rev 2.2, the PCI-7356 can seamlessly interface with systems requiring +3.3 V or +5 V power supply without the need for manual jumper adjustments. It supports brushless servo drives using sinusoidal commutation, where merely one DAC output per axis is necessary. Alternatively, while interfacing with brushed drives, this controller manages the first two phases of operation, while the drive manages the third phase, utilizing two DAC outputs per axis. Commutation values can be determined using a Hall Effect sensor or through an alternative method referred to as "shake and wake," enhancing setup flexibility. The PCI-7356 is an ideal solution for users seeking an adaptable and reliable motion control platform.
