The National Instruments part number 778556-01 is the UMI-7772 Universal Motion Interface, a robust 2-Axis motion controller designed for high-precision motion control and feedback applications. This versatile module supports quadrature incremental encoders alongside a variety of digital and analog inputs and outputs, making it ideal for diverse industrial automation and robotics environments. It features a differential input threshold of ±0.3 V (typical), is RS-422 compatible, and accommodates input voltages from 0 to 5.5 VDC with a maximum quadrature frequency of 20 MHz. The UMI-7772 is fully compatible with 5 V to 30 V limit switches and sensors, enabling comprehensive control capabilities such as global shutdown of all regulated axes via Global Stop inputs. To enhance operational integrity, the device is equipped with optical isolation for global stop inputs, inhibit signals, triggers, limits, and digital I/O, supporting 24 VDC signaling to mitigate issues related to ground loops and electrical noise. The module handles a maximum pulse rate of 100 KHz and incorporates reverse polarity protection to -30 V.

Powered by a nominal input voltage of 24 V ± 10% with a current draw of 0.20 Amps, the isolated power supply for encoders operates between 5 to 30 VDC, drawing up to 1.75 Amps. Built to withstand demanding conditions, the UMI-7772 operates effectively in environments with sinusoidal vibrations up to 5 g (10–500 Hz) and can endure shocks of 30 g over a duration of 11 ms, fulfilling rigorous industry standards. It functions optimally within a temperature range of 0 to 55 degrees Celsius, with storage capabilities from -30 to 80 degrees Celsius and a non-condensing humidity range of 10% to 90%. Designed for indoor use, it can operate at altitudes of up to 2000 meters with a pollution degree of 2 in compliance with IEC 60664 standards. The device has a weight of 2.5 lbs and dimensions of 10.2 in. x 5 in. x 0.87 in.
