This versatile device can generate a variety of standard waveforms including sine, square, triangle, and ramp, as well as more advanced signals such as pseudorandom noise and DC levels. Operating within a voltage range of -5 V to +5 V, the PXI‑5406 employs direct digital synthesis (DDS) technology to ensure high accuracy and stability in waveform generation.

The device features a robust design that withstands overload conditions and is equipped with a BN connector to manage output voltage up to ±5 V (AC peak plus DC). Notably, the CH 0 output terminal is capable of being permanently shorted to ground without damage, even when connected to a 50 Ω, ±12 V source.
