The National Instruments 779900-01, also known as the PXIe-5672 Vector Signal Generator, is an advanced RF signal generation module engineered for high-precision applications that demand flexibility and performance. This device operates across a frequency range of 250 kHz to 2.7 GHz and integrates two core modules: the PXIe-5442 Waveform Generator, which offers 16-bit resolution at a sampling rate of 100 MS/s (interpolated to 400 MS/s), and the PXI-5610 RF Signal Upconverter, facilitating efficient superheterodyne upconversion to 2.7 GHz. The combination of these components provides an instantaneous bandwidth of 20 MHz and an output power range from -145 dBm to +10 dBm.

The 779900-01 excels in high-speed data streaming, supporting continuous RF generation at rates exceeding 600 MB/s, making it particularly suited for extended waveform generation applications such as broadcast video testing and prolonged bit error rate (BER) testing. It can stream continuous waveforms from disk for over five hours at a maximum output rate of 25 MS/s (100 MB/s), ensuring reliable performance in demanding environments. This module utilizes quadrature digital upconversion to enhance signal quality and reduce errors, digitally converting baseband I/Q waveforms to an intermediate frequency (IF) within a field-programmable gate array (FPGA). This advanced processing allows for the implementation of interpolating pulse-shaping filters that improve memory efficiency and enable real-time operation across the full 20 MHz bandwidth.

Equipped with an ultra-stable 10 MHz oven-controlled crystal oscillator (OCXO), the NI 779900-01 delivers exceptional frequency stability of ±20 ppb and accuracy of ±50 ppb. Designed for versatility, it supports a variety of standard modulation formats, including AM, FM, PM, ASK, FSK, and QAM. The accompanying NI Modulation Toolkit for LabVIEW enhances these capabilities, providing comprehensive functions for signal generation, analysis, and visualization. Compliant with industry-standard plug-and-play specifications for the PXI Express bus, the module comes with the NI-RFSG instrument driver, compatible with multiple application software environments such as LabVIEW and LabWindows/CVI, simplifying the configuration of timing, synchronization, and arbitrary waveform generation for complex RF signal tasks.
