The National Instruments 780217-01 Sound and Vibration Module, also referred to as the PXIe-4496, is a high-performance device designed for demanding 16-input data acquisition applications involving sound and vibration measurement. With 24-bit analog input resolution, this module features IEPE constant current signal conditioning, making it suitable for connecting with a variety of transducers such as microphones and accelerometers. It excels in high-channel-count applications, including noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) analysis, as well as dynamic structural testing.

One of its key advantages is the capability for simultaneous sampling across all channels, which ensures precise time alignment of data collection. The module is equipped with built-in anti-aliasing filters that dynamically adjust based on the sampling rate, facilitating high-fidelity data acquisition while minimizing aliasing risk. The 780217-01 provides software-selectable input gains up to 20 dB and incorporates Transducer Electronic Data Sheet (TEDS) technology for streamlined sensor configuration, effectively reducing setup errors.

Engineered with a pseudodifferential input configuration, the module exhibits a high input impedance of 10 MΩ || 35 pF and a common-mode rejection ratio of 40 dB for frequencies below 20 kHz, making it robust and reliable under various field conditions. The Delta-sigma A/D converter allows for sample rates ranging from 100 S/s to 204.8 kS/s, supported by a FIFO buffer size of 4,095 samples and direct memory access (DMA) capabilities for efficient data handling.

Designed for operation in a temperature range from 0 °C to 55 °C and with storage capability between -20 °C and 70 °C, the 780217-01 meets several international standards for safety and electromagnetic compatibility, including IEC 61010-1 and EN 61326-1. This module is suitable for both laboratory and industrial environments, with dimensions of 16 cm × 10 cm (6.3 in. × 3.9 in.) and a weight of just 326 g (11.5 oz.). It includes four InfiniBand analog I/O connectors and can be installed at altitudes up to 2000 meters above sea level.
