The National Instruments 780587-15, also known as the PXIe-2515, is a high-performance 32-channel digital insertion module designed for efficient communication between a device under test (DUT) and measurement equipment such as PXI Source Measure Units (SMUs) or high-speed digital multimeters (DMMs). This module facilitates high-speed digital input/output (I/O) via its multiplexer-switch architecture, eliminating the need for external connectivity. It supports both DC and AC signals with a maximum switching voltage of 30V CAT I, a maximum switching current of 0.25A, and maximum power per channel of 3W. The input characteristics include an initial DC path resistance of under 2 ohms, which can increase to 3 ohms by end-of-life, and an analog bus resistance initially below 5 ohms, rising to 6 ohms.

Dynamic capabilities of the 780587-15 include the ability to simultaneously drive up to 48 relays, with a nominal relay operate time of 0.25 ms and a release time of 0.05 ms. The relays are Rhodium, engineered for high endurance, providing an expected life of 1 billion cycles at a load of 1V and 10mA, and 100 million cycles at 5V and 10mA. The module enables input and output triggering via PXI trigger lines and supports software-selectable output pulse widths from 1 µs to 62 µs.

The compact design of the NI 780587-15 measures 21.6 cm x 2.0 cm x 13.0 cm and weighs 248 grams, fitting within a standard 3U PXI or PXI Express slot. It features dual BNC female and dual VHDCI female I/O connectors. Power requirements are 9.1W at 5V and 0.45W at 3.3V for PXI, and 8.4W at 12V and 0.8W at 3.3V for PXI Express. Operating temperature ranges from 0°C to 55°C, while storage conditions support temperatures from -40°C to 70°C. The module operates under relative humidity conditions of 5% to 85% and is rated for altitudes up to 2,000 meters. Compliance with numerous safety and EMC standards such as IEC 61010-1, EN 61010-1, UL 61010-1, and CSA C22.2 No. 61010-1 ensures reliable performance in industrial applications, making the NI 780587-15 an essential component for automated test systems.
