Part Number: 780687-01
The National Instruments 780687-01 PXI CAN Interface Module, identified as the PXI-8512, is engineered to enhance connectivity and performance in industrial automation systems. This module features a single port optimized for seamless integration, leveraging low-level microcontroller programming capabilities combined with the robust functionality of the Windows operating system and the LabVIEW Real-Time environment. With its innovative DMA engine powered by NI-XNET technology, latency is dramatically reduced from milliseconds to microseconds, effectively addressing the shortcomings commonly found in PC-based CAN, LIN, and FlexRay interfaces. The integrated database engine simplifies frame-to-signal translation while ensuring optimal performance across various industry-standard signal database formats, including FIBEX, CANdb (.DBC), LDF, and NI-CAN NCD, facilitating smooth integration into network design processes.
The real-time processing capabilities of the 780687-01 are essential for accurate hardware-in-the-loop simulations and rapid control prototyping, allowing developers to manage code with ease across multiple platforms, including PXI, PCI, NI CompactDAQ, and NI CompactRIO, without requiring code modifications. Supporting up to 192 hardware-accelerated frames, this interface module minimizes repetitive processing on the host system, thereby conserving CPU resources for additional tasks. The NI RTSI synchronization feature enables integration and synchronization with other National Instruments products, including data acquisition systems, PXI modular instrumentation, vision, and motion control systems. The RTSI/Front Panel Sync Connectors on the device provide 7 input/output trigger lines and 1 input/output clock line, all TTL compatible. Upon power-on, these lines are set to input (high-impedance), with trigger responses configured for rising edge detection.
For optimal performance and flexibility, the physical layer supports Flexible Data-Rate and High-Speed CAN communications, with a maximum baud rate of 1 Mbps. The device utilizes an NXP TJA1041 or TJA1043 transceiver and features a standard 9-pin male D-SUB connector for each port, making it suitable for various applications demanding reliable CAN network solutions.
All products are covered by Industrial Automation Co.'s 2-Year Warranty.
