The National Instruments 781204-01 (PXIe-5451) is a dual-channel, 16-bit arbitrary waveform generator (AWG) with a maximum update rate of 400 MS/s, designed for high-resolution signal generation across a variety of test and measurement applications. This PXI Express module delivers precise waveform outputs thanks to its advanced 16-bit digital-to-analog converters (DACs), supporting both single-ended and differential outputs for enhanced flexibility in configuring test setups.

The device features two distinct output paths: the Main path, which utilizes a 7-pole elliptic filter for effective image suppression, and the Direct path, using a 4-pole filter to meet application-specific frequency response requirements. The output amplitude ranges from 0.00176 VPP to 10 VPP, contingent upon load and path selection, with amplitude and offset resolution achieving precision of four digits. With advanced timing and synchronization capabilities, the 781204-01 boasts channel-to-channel timing alignment accuracy as low as 25 ps on the Direct path, crucial for applications demanding precise phase coherence.

Additional features include software-selectable output enable functionality, a built-in 50 Ω termination when disabled, and waveform summing capabilities to enable complex signal generation by combining outputs from multiple signal generators. The waveform generator achieves a Spurious Free Dynamic Range (SFDR) of up to 98 dB without harmonics. Its output characteristics further specify a DC output resistance of 50 Ω per connector and return loss specifications covering frequencies up to 145 MHz. The module ensures accurate output amplitude through software-implemented load impedance compensation, adapting to varying load conditions.

The physical dimensions of the 781204-01 are 21.6 cm × 4.0 cm × 13.0 cm and it fits within a 3U two-slot PXI Express chassis, weighing 550 grams. The operational ambient temperature ranges from 0 °C to 55 °C, with a relative humidity tolerance of 10 % to 90 %, non-condensing. It incorporates self-calibration capabilities and consumes up to 41.4 W of power from both +3.3 VDC and +12 VDC sources. With a standard warranty of 2 to 3 years, the PXIe-5451 is positioned as an essential tool in advanced signal generation tasks.
