The National Instruments 781420-17 (Model Name: NI 2817A) is a high-density matrix switch card engineered for seamless integration within the NI SwitchBlock platform, enabling scalable switching configurations when combined with additional cards. This versatile matrix switch card is ideal for constructing complex switching networks in test systems, offering users the capability to establish multiple paths between test points and instruments. The modular design allows for the combination of several NI 2817 cards, facilitating a tailored multicard switch setup to meet specific testing requirements.

Designed for reliability, each channel in the 781420-17 card can handle a maximum switching voltage of 100 V, with a current limit of 0.25 A and a maximum switching power of 3 W per channel. The maximum carry current is rated at 0.3 A per channel, making the card suitable for applications that require dependable low-power signal switching. With a mechanical relay life extending up to 2.5 × 10^8 cycles, the card ensures long-lasting performance. The DC path resistance is optimized to remain below 1.6 Ω at the start, increasing to greater than 2.6 Ω by end-of-life, while the open channel resistance exceeds 1 × 10^9 Ω, effectively isolating switched-off pathways to reduce signal interference and leakage.

Isolation performance is exceptional, featuring values of 65 dB at 10 kHz down to 30 dB at 1 MHz. Additionally, the 781420-17 supports simultaneous operation of up to 61 relays, with rapid relay operate and release times of less than 1 ms for up to 8 relays and under 2 ms for 50 relays, ensuring efficient switching in dynamic applications. The bandwidth of 5 MHz accommodates a broad array of analog signal frequencies. Power efficiency is a hallmark of this card, with each relay consuming only 63 mW and an overall power consumption cap of 3.9 W. Compact at dimensions of 11.2 cm × 1.2 cm × 17.1 cm and weighing 320 g, the 781420-17 is well-suited for environments with space constraints. The incorporation of Reed relays minimizes contact wear, further prolonging operational lifespan.
