The National Instruments 783760-01, also known as the PXIe-4136, is a high-performance PXI Source Measure Unit (SMU) designed for precise electrical measurements and sourcing. This versatile instrument operates in four quadrants and is optimized for high power, speed, and accuracy, making it suitable for various applications including manufacturing tests, board-level testing, and laboratory characterization of devices such as integrated circuits (ICs), power management integrated circuits (PMICs), radio frequency integrated circuits (RFICs), light-emitting diodes (LEDs), and optical transceivers. The unit features a hardware-timed architecture and a high-speed sequencing engine, enabling synchronized acquisitions across multiple SMUs. It supports Direct Memory Access (DMA) streaming, facilitating the efficient transfer of large waveforms and measurement data at the instrument's full update and sample rates.

The 783760-01 operates within a DC voltage range of ±200 V and a current range of ±1 A, with a maximum DC source power of 20 W. It includes channel-to-earth ground isolation, withstanding continuous input of 250 V DC and offering overvoltage protection with a maximum limit of 210 V. The SMU features a transient response time of less than 70 μs for a load current change from 10% to 90% of range, and settling times vary from 50 μs to 500 μs depending on the mode and range used. Load regulation is maintained at 200 mV per A for local sense inputs and 100 μV per A for remote sensing. The device is equipped with safety features such as automatic shutdown for overcurrent, overvoltage, sink overload, and overtemperature conditions.

Additionally, the National Instruments 783760-01 supports various input and output triggers, and users can configure the polarity and pulse width for their specific applications. It operates efficiently within a temperature range of 0 °C to 55 °C and is compliant with electromagnetic compatibility and electrical safety standards. The compact design of the SMU, with dimensions of 2.0 cm × 13.0 cm × 21.6 cm (0.8 in. × 5.1 in. × 8.5 in.) and a weight of 419 g (14.8 oz.), makes it an ideal choice for laboratory or industrial environments.
