National Instruments ENET-232-2

The National Instruments ENET-232/2 is a robust 2-Port Ethernet Interface designed for seamless integration of RS-232 communications into Ethernet networks. This device is available in two voltage configurations: 121 V (Part Number: 778064-02) and 240 V (Part Number: 778064-52), catering to various geographical requirements. The ENET-232/2 connects to a PC via standard Ethernet, supporting both 100BaseTX and 10BaseTX standards, and effectively extends the number of available asynchronous serial ports. With the ability to operate in point-to-point mode, it offers a maximum communication distance of 50 ft per serial port. In multidrop communication mode, the ENET-232/2 can interface with up to 31 modules, allowing for significant extension up to 4000 km per serial port.

This serial interface features DTE ports, suitable for direct connection to computer equipment, and includes FIFO buffers to reduce latency and enhance transmission speed, achieving a maximum baud rate of 230.4 kb/sec. The device is equipped with multiple status LEDs that provide real-time feedback on power, link status, data transmission, and active port number. It is compatible with NI Serial Server Software, which facilitates the addition of COM ports and operates on Windows NT. The ENET-232/2 requires a power supply of 9 VDC with a current draw of 600 mA and utilizes a DB-9 male I/O connector.
