The National Instruments PXI-4130 is a high-performance Source Measure Unit (SMU) designed for integration into a single slot, 3U PXI system. This programmable unit features one independent SMU channel capable of delivering a four-quadrant output range of ±20 V, supporting both sourcing up to 40 W in quadrants I and III and sinking up to 10 W in quadrants II and IV. With a current measuring resolution reaching down to 1 nA, the PXI-4130 excels in applications such as semiconductor testing and design validation, where high precision and automated sourcing and sweeping are essential.

In addition to the primary SMU channel, the PXI-4130 includes a utility channel that can provide either current or voltage, with a maximum output of 6 V and 1 A. This functionality facilitates complex characterizations while reducing system complexity, size, and overall cost, making it ideal for applications like transistor characterization. The module allows users to configure the two channels for either constant voltage or constant current operations, enhancing versatility for various test scenarios. The option of enabling remote-sense on the SMU channel further improves measurement accuracy, making it suitable for precision-focused testing applications.

The PXI-4130 is compatible with NI-DCPower driver software, allowing for seamless programming through platforms such as LabVIEW and LabWindows/CVI. The module requires a warm-up period of 30 minutes and should be calibrated annually to ensure optimal performance. Control options include direct management from the PXI backplane or via an external DC power supply connected to the module’s front board. The device weighs 11 oz and has physical dimensions of 8.5 x 5.1 x 0.8 inches. It operates effectively in a temperature range of 0 °C to 55 °C and can be safely stored in environments ranging from -40 °C to 70 °C. Humidity conditions are maintained between 10% to 90% during operation and 5% to 95% for storage, with durability standards for vibrations at 0.3 grms during operation and 2.4 grms when not in use across a frequency spectrum of 5 to 500 Hz. Although the PXI-4130 is declared obsolete by National Instruments, it remains available for purchase through Apex Waves.
