The National Instruments PXI-8462 is a high-performance PXI CAN Interface Module designed to enable seamless communication and control of CAN devices within PXI or CompactPCI chassis. This module features dual speed capabilities, with port one configured as a high-speed port (ISO 11898) and port two as a low-speed port (ISO 11519-2). The PXI-8462 adheres to both PXI and CompactPCI specifications and provides flexibility through programming configurability. It supports an integrated CAN physical layer that can be powered either internally or via remote bus link power. The interface uses DB-9 D-Sub connectors and is equipped with an Intel 386EX embedded processor to execute time-critical functions facilitated by the NI-CAN software. Synchronization across multiple modules is achieved through the RTSI bus, enhancing functionality for complex applications. Low-speed CAN requires termination at the transceiver rather than along the cable, allowing the Philips fault-tolerant transceiver to detect various network faults. The module connects to a low-speed CAN network accommodating between two to 32 nodes, including its own port as a node. Power supply for the CAN physical layer is user-configurable via jumpers. The PXI-8462 has been designated as obsolete by National Instruments, but remains available for purchase and repair services through Apex Waves.
