National Instruments UMI-4A

The National Instruments UMI-4A is a Universal Motion Interface Accessory designed to enhance connectivity for motion control applications. This device supports four independent axes and facilitates connections between NI plug-in motion control boards and various components, including power supplies, encoders, servo amplifiers, stepper drivers, limit switches, and motors. The UMI-4A is equipped with a DIN-rail mounting base, simplifying field wiring operations with individual, removable screw terminal blocks for each axis—these standard terminal blocks require no special tools for wire installation.

The UMI-4A features a 50-pin interface cable compatibility for linking to ValueMotion boards, supporting various cable options such as the SH50-50 shielded cable, NB1 ribbon cable, and SH68-68-S shielded cable with the 68M-50F Step Bulkhead Cable Adapter. A 5 V power supply is necessary for operation, with an optional auxiliary power supply available. This accessory incorporates a host bus monitor power interlock that automatically disables the amplifiers when the interface cable is disconnected or the host computer shuts down, ensuring safe operation at all times. The device includes a 34-pin male box header and two 6-pin removable screw terminal blocks for I/O connectivity.
