TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
The Allen-Bradley 1756-EN2TR ControlLogix communication module enables general and real-time I/O messages and information transmission for RCS (Real-Time Control Systems) and applications using time synchronization and motion.
It is an Ethernet Industrial Protocol (Ethernet/IP) interface communication module with a dual port. It complies with the safety requirements of the CIP (Common Industrial Protocol) standard by enabling the simultaneous delivery of control and safety data as well as diagnostic data. It makes use of physical media and cutting-edge communication chips.
The 1756-EN2TR communication module supports Ethernet/IP communication speeds of 10 to 100 Mbps. It supports 128 TCP/IP connections and 256 Logix connections. It draws 1 A current at 5.1V dc and supports up to 8 axes of integrated motion across an Ethernet/IP network. It can dissipate 5.1 Watts of electricity at its maximum and 17.4 BTU of heat per hour.
It may go into any open slot on the ControlLogix Chassis. Category 5 twisted-pair cables with unshielded RJ45 (Registered Jack-45) connectors are used for wiring the controller.
To configure the 1756-EN2TR communication module for use at the workstation, RSLinx software is required. Without the correct setup of variables like subnet masks, IP addresses, and gateways, a network using Ethernet/IP cannot be used.
The bridge of the 1756-EN2TR communication module serves several purposes, including supporting messages, distributed I/O, and tagging. It contains messages within the TCP/IP protocol standard. It may share an application layer thanks to the ControlNet and DeviceNet networking protocols.
No scheduling or routing table is necessary for the 1756-EN2TR communication module to store data. Additional features include a Device Level Ring (DLR) Network, explicitly secured mode, electronic keying, and compatibility with PRP (Parallel Redundancy Protocol).
The redundant Ethernet networks are the planned use for the 1756-EN2TR communication module. The dual RJ45 ports part of this module provide an Ethernet network and feature a transmission rate of 10-100 Mbps with auto-negotiation, extending the network's reach. These ports also support the Ethernet protocol.
This module enables star and ring topologies with approved partner devices, including CompactLogix, FLEX I/O, ControlLogix, and POINT I/O. Other controllers from Allen-Bradley, such as the PLC-5, MicroLogix, and SLC 500 controllers, can also use this module to implement messages. Additionally, it can communicate with third-party products, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) devices, and human-machine interfaces (HMI). It may connect devices, converters, and gateways from other companies and have partner modules.
This module also enables integrated Ethernet connection of computers and programming workstations, eliminating the need to purchase expensive communication adapters to connect to the controller. A Category 5 or 6 cable is also necessary for the module to function correctly. If needed, this cable can serve as a communication cable.
The Allen-Bradley BOOTP/DHCP tool may be used to configure or establish IP addresses initially. A large range of Ethernet devices developed by Allen-Bradley employ the BOOTP/DHCP utility. The pre-determined IP address is set to the device's MAC address using this software. Following the specification of an IP address, more operational modifications are made using Studio 5000 Logix Designer or RSLogix 5000.
