Part Number: IC698CHS217

The IC698CHS217 is a rear-mounted I/O access module rack designed by GE Automation and Controls, featuring a total capacity of 17 slots. This versatile rack accommodates a variety of RX7i CPUs, Series 90-70 modules, and VME devices, supporting both single-width and double-width modules. Slot zero is reserved for the power supply, while slot one is allocated for the CPU. Module spacing within the rack is 0.8 inches (20.3 mm) apart, and an offset bracket allows for convenient rear access to I/O pins.

This rack is equipped with rear access to backplane modules and offers support for an optional cooling fan. The IC698CHS217 utilizes slot sensing for module addressing, eliminating the need for jumpers and DIP switches. Its VME64 J2 connectors on the backplane facilitate transfer speeds of 64 bits per cycle and the rack supports RX7i plug-in power supplies that can handle higher wattage capabilities.

The IC698CHS217 is classified as open equipment and must be installed in an environment rated IP54 or better. Its dimensions are 11.15 inches in height (283 mm), 19 inches in width (483 mm), and 8.875 inches in depth (225 mm). With the rear-mounted cover installed, the height and width remain consistent while the depth increases to 8.97 inches (228 mm). M6 machine screws are required for mounting the rack with spacers. If a fan is installed, an additional clearance of 9 inches (23 cm) is necessary. To ensure proper grounding of RX7i and Series 90-70 modules, devices must be secured directly to the rack, and some modules come equipped with a grounding clip that establishes a ground when fully inserted. For safety grounding, connect the studs on the side of the rack to earth ground using appropriate wiring.
